position

Marshall is considered socially conservative, he rejects abortions, stem cell research, same-sex marriages and stricter gun laws and supports the proposed Flag Desecration Amendment , a constitutional amendment of the u. a. to outlaw the burning of the US flag. When it comes to economic and environmental issues, however, he is more on the democratic party line.

He was a member of the Blue Dog Coalition , a group of conservative Democratic congressmen.

Perspectives

Marshall was listed as a possible candidate for the Georgia gubernatorial election in 2010, and possibly also for the US Senate elections that year. Georgia is considered very conservative, Marshall would be one of the few Democrats who were given a realistic chance of winning the election. However, his constituency was recently redesigned and now has more Republican regular voters, which is why his party colleagues advised him not to run for the Senate.
