Ithaca (named after the Ionian island of Ithaca ) is a city in Tompkins County in the US -amerikanischen State New York . According to the 2010 census, the population was 30,014, the population density was 2,143.9 inhabitants per km².

Ithaca is located on Cayuga Lake (one of the Finger Lakes ) in the center of New York State, about 350 km from New York City . The landscape is mountainous and criss-crossed by many waterfalls, for example the Buttermilk Falls in the village or the Taughannock Falls outside the village .
