Jennifer Yu

Jennifer Yu (born February 1, 2002 in Ithaca ) is an American chess player .

Jennifer Yu started playing chess when she was seven. Her family moved to Virginia , where she began to study the game when she was nine. In 2016 the World Chess Federation FIDE awarded her the title of International Women's Master (WIM), in 2017 the title of FIDE Master (FM), and in 2018 she became the Women's Grand Master (WGM).

From 2012 to 2014 she took part in three youth world championships in chess . At that in South Africa in 2014 she won gold in the U12 female age group. In 2015, she became the first woman and youngest person to ever achieve the title to become Virginia State Chess Champion. In 2017 she won bronze at the Junior World Championship (age group U20 female) in Italy .

In 2018 she was on the US women's team at the Chess Olympiad . Jennifer Yu participated in the United States Women's Championship from 2014 to 2019. In 2019 she won the US Women's Championship with 10 points from 11 games.

Jennifer Yu lives in Ashburn, Virginia .
