Jabez Young Jackson

Jabez Young Jackson (born July 1790 in Savannah , Georgia , † after 1837 in Clarkesville , Georgia) was an American politician . Between 1835 and 1839 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Jabez Jackson was a son of Governor James Jackson (1757-1806), who had represented the state of Georgia in both chambers of Congress between 1789 and 1806 . He was also an uncle of Congressman James Jackson (1819–1887), who served in the US House of Representatives for Georgia from 1857 to 1861. The exact date of birth and death of Jackson are unknown. The sources do not provide any information about his childhood and youth either. He moved to Clarkesville in Habersham County .

Politically, he joined the movement around Andrew Jackson and later became a member of the Democratic Party founded by him . After the resignation of Congressman James Moore Wayne , he was elected in the due by-election for the fourth seat of Georgia as his successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . There he took up his new mandate on October 5, 1835. After being re-elected, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1839. It was there that he saw the final stages of the Andrew Jackson presidency and the economic crisis of 1837 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, there is practically no information about his future life. He died in Clarkesville at an unknown date.
