Robert W. Everett

Robert William Everett (born March 3, 1839 in Hayneville , Houston County , Georgia , †  February 27, 1915 in Rockmart , Georgia) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Everett attended his homeland public schools and the Hayneville Academy . He then studied until 1859 at Mercer University in Macon . He then taught as a teacher for two years. During the Civil War he was sergeant in the army of the Confederacy . After the war, Everett returned to teaching until 1872. Then he worked in agriculture. Between 1875 and 1880 he was in Polk County Commissioner for the road and Taxation ( Commissioner of Roads and Revenue ). From 1880 to 1891 he was a member of the education committee of this district, which he chaired from 1882.

Politically, Everett was a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1882 and 1885 he was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives . In the congressional elections of 1890 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Georgia , where he succeeded Judson C. Clements on March 4, 1891 . Since he refused to run again in 1892, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1893 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Robert Everett returned to farming. He was again a member of the Georgia House of Representatives in 1898 and 1899. He then retired, which he spent at Rockmart.
