Earl Leroy "Buddy" Carter (born September 6, 1957 in Port Wentworth , Chatham County , Georgia ) is an American politician . He has represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives since 2015 .

Career

In 1975 Buddy Carter graduated from Robert W. Groves High School in Garden City . He then studied until 1977 at Young Harris College . This was followed by a pharmacy degree at the University of Georgia in Athens until 1980 . In the following years he worked in this branch. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 1994 and 1995 he was a member of Pooler Parish Council. Between 1996 and 2004 he was also mayor there. From 2005 to 2009, Carter was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives ; between 2009 and 2014 he sat in the local state senate .

In the 2014 congressional election , Carter was elected to the US House of Representatives in the first constituency of Georgia in Washington, DC , where on January 3, 2015 he succeeded Jack Kingston , who was no longer running for the House of Representatives and was in was inferior to his party's primary elections for the US Senate . Since he was confirmed in office in 2016, he will also serve in the 115th Congress of the United States, which meets on January 3, 2017 . His new legislative term runs until January 3, 2019 with the option of a further candidacy in 2018.
