Charles Floyd Hatcher (born July 1, 1939 in Doerun , Colquitt County , Georgia ) is an American politician . Between 1981 and 1993 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Hatcher attended public schools in his home country. Between 1958 and 1962 he was a soldier in the US Air Force . He then continued his education until 1965 at Georgia Southern College in Statesboro . After completing a law degree at the University of Georgia in Athens and being admitted to the bar in 1969, he began to work in his new profession in Albany . At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party .

Between 1973 and 1980, Hatcher was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives . In the 1980 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of his state , where he succeeded Dawson Mathis on January 3, 1981 . After five re-elections, he was able to complete six legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1993 . The 27th amendment to the constitution was passed there in 1992 .

In his party's primaries for the 1992 congressional elections , Hatcher lost to Sanford Bishop , who was subsequently elected as his successor in Congress. After he left the US House of Representatives, Charles Hatcher no longer appeared politically. Today he lives in Newton .
