Elected to the United States House of Representatives in 1992
The 1992 election to the United States House of Representatives took place on November 3, 1992, parallel to the presidential election. The Democratic Party candidate , Bill Clinton , emerged victorious from the presidential election . In the House of Representatives elections, however, the Democrats lost a total of nine seats to the Republicans . Partly also the redistribution of electoral district boundaries (as was reason for redistricting ) due to the census called in 1990. Despite the losses, the Democrats were able to maintain their majority in the House of Representatives , which had existed since 1954 . As the only non-party candidate, Bernie Sanders was again successful in Vermont .
