John Millen

John Millen (* 1804 in Savannah , Georgia ; †  October 15, 1843 there ) was an American politician . In 1843 he represented the state of Georgia in the US House of Representatives .

Career

The exact date of birth of John Millen is not known. He first attended schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer, he began to work in Savannah in his new profession. Politically, he joined the movement around Andrew Jackson and became a member of the Democratic Party founded by him . Between 1828 and 1839, Millen was a member of the Georgia House of Representatives .

In the state-wide held congressional elections of 1842 , he was elected as a Democrat for the fourth mandate from Georgia to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded Roger Lawson Gamble on March 4, 1843 . Millen was only able to exercise his mandate for about seven months because he died in Savannah on October 15 of the same year. His parliamentary seat fell after a by-election to Duncan Lamont Clinch of the Whig Party .
