II. GDR League 1960

The II. GDR League 1960 was the sixth season of the II. GDR League, founded in 1955 . It was the third highest division in the German Football Association of the GDR (DFV) after the GDR Oberliga and the first GDR League .

Game operation

The second GDR league in 1960 was carried out analogously to the five championships from 1955 to 1959 as the last season based on the Russian model, in which football matches were aligned with the calendar year. It was held in five seasons with a subsequent promotion round, from whose championships Vorwärts Neubrandenburg , Motor Dessau and Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt rose to the GDR league .

season 1

Season 1 (district Rostock, Schwerin, Neubrandenburg, Berlin) was played on 26 match days with a return game. Relay winner and promoted to the GDR league was Vorwärts Neubrandenburg . Progress Neustadt-Glewe , Unit Teterow and Unit Ludwigslust were relegated to the district league area. In the following season Lok Waren , Lok Wittenberge , Motor Eberswalde , Motor Köpenick and Motor Stralsund moved up into the 2nd GDR League.

season 2

Season 2 (Bez. Berlin, Potsdam, Frankfurt, Cottbus) was played on 26 match days with a return leg. Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt was the relay winner and promoted to the GDR league . Lok Cottbus , activist Schwarze Pump and Empor Fürstenwalde relegated to the district league area. Rotation Babelsberg , whose 1st team played in the GDR league this season, had to delegate its team to the newly founded SC Potsdam at the beginning of the 1961/62 season , which then took the league place of the BSG rotation. Then Rotation Babelsberg took the previous place of their 2nd team in the following season. The climbers from the district leagues in season 2 were Aufbau Großräschen , TSG Velten and BSG Turbine Magdeburg .

Season 3 (district Halle, Magdeburg, Leipzig) was played on 26 match days with a return leg. Motor Dessau was the season winner and promoted to the GDR league . Unit Burg , Chemie Leuna and Chemie Schönebeck were relegated to the district league area. In the following season Motor Ammendorf and Motor Schkeuditz moved up into the second GDR league.

Season 4 (district Dresden, Leipzig, Karl-Marx-Stadt) was played on 26 match days with a return game. The season winner was Vorwärts Leipzig . Development Meißen , Chemie Schwarzheide and Motor Altenburg were relegated to the district league area. In the following season, Chemie Riesa , Motor West Karl-Marx-Stadt and the league relegated Progress Meerane and Motor Bautzen moved into the 2nd GDR League.

In the following season, Chemie Schwarza , Lok Meiningen , Dynamo Erfurt and the relegated Lok Weimar moved into the II.

The five season winners determined the three promoted players in the first GDR league in a simple game round. Of the four games to be played, each team had home rights twice.
