Structural development

The origins of the club go back to FC Weimar 03 , which was founded on February 22nd, 1903 . This went on in 1904 in the Weimar sports club . The sports club had 700 members in 1928 and offered sports such as light and heavy athletics, soccer and other ball games, as well as hockey and tennis.

After the end of the Second World War , the sports club was dissolved in 1945 due to Directive No. 23 of the Allied Control Council of the Occupying Powers. As a successor, the sports community (SG) Weimar-Ost was created . Through the merger with SG Weimar-Falkenburg and SG Vimaria Weimar, SG Eintracht Weimar was created on August 20, 1948 , which was taken over in 1949 by the newly founded company sports association (BSG) of the local municipal business enterprise KWU Weimar . After changing the carrier company, the BSG was renamed Turbine Weimar on April 4, 1951 . On October 8, 1954, the soccer section of the BSG Turbine joined the BSG Lokomotive Weimar , the BSG Lok merged with the BSG Motor Weimar on March 26, 1961 . This was supported by the Weimar combine harvester as a sponsoring company , operated twelve sports sections and had up to 1,100 members.

In 1990 former BSG members of BSG Motor founded the registered association SV Motor Weimar . Their football department joined the revived SC 1903 Weimar on July 22, 1991 . Its club colors black, yellow and green are borrowed from the state flag of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach .

Lindenberg sports park

The Lindenberg Sports Park was built by the previous sports club Weimar and inaugurated on July 31, 1921. On April 10, 1960, the still valid audience record was set up in the GDR league game against Turbine Erfurt with 10,000 spectators. The stadium currently has a capacity of 8,000 seats. The old grandstand, which was destroyed by a storm in 1999, was restored to its old location in 2004.

In 1914 and 1916, the Sport-Club Weimar played in the final round of the Central German Championship , but dropped out there in the first round in 1914 and in the quarter-finals in 1916. After the end of the Second World War , the SG Weimar-Ost participated in the 1946 soccer championships in Thuringia . In 1948, the SG qualified for the first-ever soccer East Zone Championship . There she won in the quarterfinals 1-0 after extra time over Brandenburg's representative SG Cottbus-Ost , but then lost against the eventual champions SG Planitz with 0-5. After the name change to SG Eintracht, the footballers did not get past fourth place in season 2 of the Thuringia national football class in the 1948/49 season . The newly founded BSG KWU won the Thuringian football championship in 1950 with a 1-0 victory over SG Lauscha and qualified with four wins in the promotion round of the GDR Oberliga . In the top soccer class, the BSG, which was renamed Turbine Weimar during the season, could only hold out for one year. From the 1951/52 season until the end of the GDR football game operations, the Weimar team played predominantly in the second-rate GDR league . In the seasons 1956 (calendar year season) and 1961/62, the team, renamed Lokomotive Weimar, entered the third-rate 2nd GDR league after relegation , but both times managed to get promoted again immediately. In 1958, the team caused a sensation when they reached the semi-finals of the GDR soccer cup , where they lost 2-1 to Lokomotive Leipzig. In 1968, the soccer players were relegated as BSG Motor to the now third-class district league Erfurt , from which they only dropped out in 1971 rose again for one season in the GDR league. This was followed by three seasons again in the district league by 1975, and from 197/75 to 1983/84 back in the GDR league with some good placements. It was not until 1984 that the GDR league was reduced from five to two seasons that Motor Weimar failed to qualify and had to compete in the district league again for one season. Then the motor soccer players played second class until 1991, most recently in the NOFV league , which they finished with tenth place among 16 teams.

After the transfer to the DFB game operations , the SV Motor and SC 1903 Weimar played in 1991/92 and 1992/93 in the then third-class football league Northeast . After two years in the Thuringian League, they returned in 1995 as a master of the Thuringian League in the now fourth-class league. 1997 Weimar rose after two years in the fifth class Thuringian league, which has been the sixth highest division since the introduction of the third division in 2008. Since then, the class has been held here every year and the return to the Oberliga Nordost has not yet been successful (as of 2019).
