Julian Börner (born January 21, 1991 in Weimar ) is a German football player . The defender plays for the English club Sheffield Wednesday .

Career

Börner began his career as a youth footballer in 1996 at SC 1903 Weimar . From 1998 to 2001 he played for SSV Vimaria Weimar and from 2001 to 2009 for Rot-Weiß Erfurt . In 2009 he moved to Energie Cottbus in Lausitz and received a professional contract.

In the 2009/10 season he was often used at FC Energie Cottbus II in the Oberliga Nordost . His first game for the Cottbus reserve was on August 8, 2009, the 2-1 win at Malchower SV . In this game he also scored his first goal. At the end of the season there was the championship title and promotion to the Regionalliga Nord.

He played his first game in the 2nd Bundesliga on August 23, 2009 in the 1: 3 defeat against SpVgg Greuther Fürth , when he came on for Sergiu Radu in the 73rd minute .

After relegation to the 3rd division with Energie Cottbus in 2014, he moved to relegated Arminia Bielefeld, with whom he was promoted to the 2nd division in the following season. Börner has been the captain of East Westphalia since 2017. The defense lawyer turned down an offer to extend his contract, which was valid until June 2019, despite an oral promise.

Then Börner signed a contract with the traditional English club Sheffield Wednesday for three years until 2022. Afterwards, he says he would like to return to Bielefeld, if possible also in football.

Börner has been married to Kristina (née Gessat), a former DFB national player, since December 2013 . In 2017 the couple became parents of a daughter.
