Fernando Martín Forestieri (born January 15, 1990 in Rosario , Argentina ) is an Italian soccer player who is currently under contract with the English second division club Sheffield Wednesday .

CFC Genoa and Udinese Calcio

Fernando Forestieri, born in Argentina to Italian parents, returned to Italy with his parents at the age of sixteen and joined the youth team at CFC Genoa . He made his debut for the Italian second division club on November 8, 2006 in the Italian Cup against FC Empoli . His first and only league appearance he played 13 January 2007 in a 2-1 defeat at Pescara Calcio and scored his first goal directly. In the following two seasons he was loaned to the first division side AC Siena and the second division side Vicenza Calcio .

In July 2009 he moved to Udinese Calcio but was loaned directly to the Spanish first division club Málaga . For Malaga he played nineteen games in the 2009/10 Primera División . The two subsequent seasons he played on Leibais at the Italian second division clubs FC Empoli and AS Bari .

Watford FC and Sheffield Wednesday

On August 31, 2012 he moved with five teammates from Udinese Calcio on loan to the English second division club Watford . The Watford club was also bought in June by Giampaolo Pozzo, owner of Granada CF and Udinese Calcio. In mid-January 2013, Watford announced the signing of Forestieri on a firm contract basis. In the Football League Championship 2012/13 , the 23-year-old attacker (28 league games / 8 goals) moved into the play-offs with his team as third in the table. Following the first round success over Leicester City , Watford FC failed in the final with 0: 1 after extra time to Crystal Palace . After seven league goals in the 2013/14 season for the thirteenth in the table, Fernando Forestieri achieved promotion to the Premier League in 2014/15 with his team as second in the table .

At the end of August 2015, Forestieri signed a four-year contract with the second division team Sheffield Wednesday . For the team from Sheffield he scored fifteen league goals and thus reached the best value in his career. With the table sixth he moved after a success over Brighton & Hove Albion (2-0 and 1: 1) in the play-off final, but lost it 0-1 against Hull City .

National team

With the U-19 national team of Italy Fernando Forestieri took part in the UEFA European Under-19 Championship in 2008 partly in the Czech Republic. Italy moved into the semi-finals as group winners of group B and beat Hungary 1-0 there . In the final in Jablonec nad Nisou , Forestieri and his team lost 1: 3 against the German U-19 national team .
