Steven Kenneth Fletcher (born March 26, 1987 in Shrewsbury , England ) is a Scottish football player .
life and career
youth
Fletcher is the son of a British Army soldier from Liverpool . He often spent his childhood on military bases in Germany and England until his father died of cancer when Fletcher was just ten years old. He then moved with his mother to Hamilton in Scotland to be closer to the relatives. At the age of 13, he joined the Hibernian Edinburgh youth team , coached by John Park.

For the 2003/04 season, Fletcher joined the professional Hibernian team at the age of 16. He made his league debut in a 3-0 win over FC Kilmarnock towards the end of the season. He made his breakthrough in the first team the following season, when he played 26 times and scored five goals. He scored ten goals in the 2005/06 season. After the two strikers Derek Riordan and Garry O'Connor had left the club for the 2006/07 season , Fletcher finally established himself in the starting eleven. His personal highlight of the season came in the final of the Scottish League Cup , when he defeated FC Kilmarnock 5-1 with his club and scored twice himself. In the game against FC Gretna on February 13, 2008 he scored his first hat trick . In the same year he was voted best young player of the year.
On June 3, 2010, he moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers , where he signed a four-year contract. In his first game, he scored his first goal against Stoke City . After two seasons, 44 league games in which he had scored 22 goals, he moved to the English first division AFC Sunderland in the summer of 2012 . There he signed a four-year contract.
On February 1, 2016, Fletcher was awarded to the French first division club Olympique Marseille until the end of the season.
National team
Fletcher participated with the U-19 division of Scotland in the U-19 European Championship 2006 in Poland , where he reached the final. On March 17, 2008 he made his debut for the national team against Croatia . He gave the template for Kenny Millers 1: 1, which was the final score. Fletcher was replaced at halftime.
