Massimo Corey Luongo (born September 25, 1992 in Sydney ) is an Australian football player who plays for the English club Sheffield Wednesday .
Career
society
Massimo Luongo started playing soccer with APIA Leichhardt Tigers FC in the Leichhardt district of his hometown Sydney. At the age of 18 he went to England and was accepted into the youth of Tottenham Hotspur . In the 2011/12 season he was once in the squad of the Premier League team, but was not used. He was only substituted into the first team once during a game in the League Cup .
The following year he was loaned to the second division club Ipswich Town . He was there nine times in the league and then returned to Tottenham. He then played for most of the season for the Spurs U-21 team before being loaned to third division club Swindon Town for the last seven games of the season . The club missed promotion, but Luongo had proven himself and scored an important goal in the play-offs, so the club loaned him out for another year and signed him for three years shortly after the start of the season. In the 2013/14 season, the Australian was a regular in midfield at Swindon, playing in 44 of the 46 league games, 40 of which over the full season.
National team
Massimo Luongo was appointed to the Australian national team for the first time in the run-up to the 2014 World Cup . In the preparatory game against Ecuador on March 5, 2014, he was called up for the first time and was also used as a substitute. He took part in preparations for the World Cup and in early June it was announced that he was part of Australia's 23-strong squad for the tournament in Brazil , in which he was not used. In January 2015 he won the Australian national football team , the 2015 AFC Asian Cup and was also named the best player of the tournament. He was also in the squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where Australia was eliminated in the preliminary round after two defeats against France and Peru and a draw against Denmark . Luongo remained without commitment.
