The company sports community (BSG) Einheit Weimar was a sports community that was successful in sports in the GDR , especially in women's handball.

Field handball

As the Thuringian champion in women's field handball , the BSG Einheit Weimar first took part in the GDR championship in 1951, but was eliminated in the preliminary round. Indoor handball

In 1952, the BSG Einheit Weimar took part in the GDR championship finals for women in indoor handball for the first time . With one win and one defeat, the Weimar women reached the semi-finals, in which they defeated SC Progress Weissenfels 7: 4 after extra time. The BSG unit lost the final against the East Berlin representative SC Weißensee 3: 4. In the 1954 finals, Einheit Weimar won both group games and became GDR champions with a 3-1 victory over the women of SC DHfK Leipzig . In the 1954/55 season weimar unit won the district championship, but could not qualify for the championship finals. Then the handball women of the BSG unit switched to BSG Motor Weimar .

Fistball

In 1952 the women of the BSG Einheit Weimar became GDR champions in field fistball . At the first indoor fistball championship in the GDR in 1953 , they came third.

People of particular importance

  • Anni Kley was a handball player at Einheit Weimar, was a national handball player and was awarded the title of Master of Sport by the GDR government in 1953 .
  • Marianne Storch was also a handball player with the BSG unit and national player. She was honored as a master of sport in 1955.
  • Bernhard Trefflich came to Einheit Weimar from BSG KWU Weimar in 1951. From 1951 he drove for the GDR team, for which he made his first international peace tour in 1951 . In 1953 he moved to Karl-Marx-Stadt , where he became East German road racing champion in the same year.
