Siegfried Vollrath

Siegfried Vollrath (born September 1, 1928 in Erfurt , Province of Saxony ; † November 28, 2018 there ) was a German soccer player and soccer coach . In the 1950s he played for Turbine Erfurt in the GDR Oberliga and was GDR champion twice.

Career as a player

Siegfried Vollrath played in his youth at SC Erfurt . After the Second World War and subsequent captivity until 1949, he returned to Erfurt and subsequently played for the successor communities of SC Erfurt, SG Fortuna, BSG KWU and Turbine. In 1954 he played all 28 point games and became top scorer in the league with 21 goals together with Auer Heinz Satrapa . In doing so, he contributed significantly to winning the Turbine Erfurt championship. In the decisive game for the championship on April 4, 1954 against Wismut Aue , Vollrath shot the Erfurt opening goal in front of his own audience in the 11th minute to later make it 2-0. He also played a major role in defending his title the following year. He was used in 20 point games and was again Erfurt's top scorer with 16 goals. By the end of his league career Vollrath brought it in the top division of the GDR on a total of 143 games, in which he scored 71 goals. In the FDGB Cup , he scored 11 goals in 15 games for Erfurt. After the relegation of Turbine Erfurt in 1959, he moved to Dynamo Erfurt , where he let his career end in the fourth-class district league .

Career as a coach

From 1963 to 1971 Siegfried Vollrath was employed as a youth coach at his old club Turbine Erfurt (from 1966 FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt ). There he was in 1965 with the youth team and 1967 with the juniors GDR champion. On July 1, 1971, he took over the training of the first men's team, which had just been relegated from the league, and promptly led them to promotion. When the Erfurt promoted 1972/73 only reached 12th place in the league, Vollrath was dismissed as head coach on July 31, 1973. 1974/75 he coached the third-rate district league team of Motor Rudisleben , then he was a year coach at the district league club Lok Erfurt and took over the second-rate GDR league team Motor Weimar for the 1977/78 season . In his first year he led him from 9th place last year to 2nd place in the final table. In the following years he was always able to form a top team in the GDR league , until in 1983 Vollrath ended his coaching activity in Weimar when he fell to 9th place. He then worked as a district trainer for the Erfurt district committee. In the 1989/90 season Vollrath was once again coach of the GDR league team at Motor Weimar.
