history

1919–1945: Foundation and merger

The club was founded in 1919 as a division of the Berlin football club SC Union 06 Oberschöneweide under the name SC Union 06 Oberschönweide Abt. Fürstenwalde . In 1927 the name was changed to SC Union Fürstenwalde 1919 and in 1933 it merged with FC Wacker Fürstenwalde in 1923 to form FC 1919 Fürstenwalde . Until its dissolution after the end of the war in 1945 by the Allied Control Council , the club played lower class.

1945–1971: Re-establishment in GDR football

Instead of the old FC, the FDJ SG Fürstenwalde was founded in 1946 , which was renamed SG Union Fürstenwalde in 1950 . Although at that time most of the independent sports associations were converted into company sports associations (BSG) under the sponsorship of local companies and institutions, the SG Union was able to maintain its financial independence until 1958. The Fürstenwalder football players were among the founding members of the Frankfurt District League in 1952 , after they had belonged to the Brandenburg State League until the East German districts were established, and mostly occupied places in the middle of the table.

In 1958 the company was restructured into the BSG Empor Fürstenwalde , which had its first sense of achievement when it was promoted to the third-class 2nd GDR league in 1959. In the 1960 season , however, Empor was knocked off the last of the season and was relegated to the district league. In the following year, BSG Empor merged with local rivals BSG Motor to form TSG Fürstenwalde . In 1963 TSG was again district champion, but missed promotion with fourth place in the promotion round to the second-rate GDR league . In the following years, the team was mostly in the midfield of the Frankfurt (Oder) district league, at the end of the 1970/71 season it was only 13th.

1971–1990: BFC Dynamo management school

The SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde was created in 1971 through the merger of TSG Fürstenwalde, SG Dynamo Frankfurt and SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde / Bad Saarow and replaced Dynamo Frankfurt in the second-rate GDR league for the 1971/72 season . The sports association of the internal security organs of the GDR, or SV Dynamo for short , pursued the goal of building a new football youth center within reach of the Berlin FC Dynamo as a replacement for the team at the previous location in Frankfurt (Oder) , where competition from FC Vorwärts and the BSG semiconductor plant existed. In Fürstenwalde, the local clubs played in the district league at most and the city also offered an appropriate venue with the Rudolf Harbig Stadium, which at that time had a capacity of 4,000. Until 1977 Dynamo Fürstenwalde always occupied places in the midfield, before a 10th place was no longer enough for relegation the following year. In the following district league year, the team around their top performers Gerd Pröger (goal), Klaus Malzahn (defense) and captain Peter Wötzel (midfield) matured into a powerful squad that immediately rose again with a 2nd place behind the reserve team from Vorwärts Frankfurt who were not eligible for promotion made it to the second highest division.

The BFC Dynamo now helped its own talents such as Peter Kaehlitz , Bernd Kuhlke and Bernd Lüdtke to practice in Fürstenwalde . Under coach Egon Rohde (father of the league players Peter , Rainer and Frank Rohde ) the SG Dynamo reached first place in the league season B in 1979/80 . In the promotion round to the GDR league , the team then failed to Hansa Rostock , Chemie Böhlen and Energie Cottbus , only against Bismut Gera there was a victory.

Despite the excellent season, an average of only 1,100 spectators came to the home games. In the league games of the 1979/80 season 19 players were used, their average age was 23.1 years. The following eleven had an average age of 23.9 years:

Gerd Pröger (22 missions, 25 years)
Hans Joachim Hubrich (16/25)
Klaus Malzahn (21/24), Knut Schulz (11/20), Jürgen Marquering (22/26)
Stefan Ott (17/23), Peter Wötzel (22/28), Dieter Müller (21/25)
Bernd Stiegel (13/21), Detlef Schulz (18/26), Bernd Lüdtke (22/20)

Until the end of the GDR and after the reunification

Until the end of the GDR football operation in 1990, Dynamo Fürstenwalde was mostly able to hold its own in the top ranks of the GDR league. The plan to supply the BFC with top division players was only partially realized. Only a few Fürstenwalder players like Burkhard Reich (102 league games), Thorsten Boer (32) and Peter Kaehlitz (9) were later used at the BFC.

With the beginning of the change in the GDR in 1989 and the dissolution of the MfS , the main support for SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde also ceased. For a few months the club was still called SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde and disbanded after the 1989/90 season for financial reasons . When it was re-established, the football club was called FSV Fürstenwalde - later FSV Wacker Fürstenwalde until the merger in 2002 with SG Union Fürstenwalde to form FSV Union Fürstenwalde.

1990 to today: The way to the FSV Union 1919

After the dissolution of the association in 1990, a new club under the name was SG Union 1919 Fürstenwalde founded, who always played unterklassig between 1990 and 2002 until 2002 with the in the Verbandsliga Brandenburg playing FSV Wacker Fürstenwalde for FSV Union Fürstenwalde merged and its place in the association league. Union played - except for one season - in the following years mostly against relegation and could not prevent it in 2006. In 2008, the Fürstenwalder managed to rise again to the Association League, which has now been renamed the Brandenburgliga , in which the championship and the associated promotion to the Oberliga Nordost were celebrated in 2011 . In the 2015/16 season , the FSV Union was promoted to the Regionalliga Nordost as champions of the Oberliga .

The greatest success is winning the Brandenburg State Cup with a 2-1 win against SV Babelsberg on August 22, 2020 in the Werner Seelenbinder Stadium in Luckenwalde . The win entitles you to start in the DFB-Pokal 2020/21 , where the FSV will meet VfL Wolfsburg in the first round .
