The Bischofswerdaer FV 08 is a football club from Bischofswerda in Saxony . The club is colloquially called, like the city itself, Schiebock .

history

Beginnings

On July 14, 1908, FC Germania 08 Bischofswerda was founded. Two years later, Sportlust was founded in 1910 in Bischofswerda. In 1919 these two clubs merged and formed the sports club 08 Bischofswerda until the Second World War. The greatest success of these early years was the victory (3-2 in front of 1,500 spectators) in the intermediate round of the Tschammer Cup in 1942 against the defending champion Dresdner SC (including Helmut Schön ).

GDR time

After the Second World War, all civil associations were dissolved. As a replacement, the sports community (SG) Bischofswerda was founded, whose soccer team played in the Saxon district league East Saxony until 1949. After the establishment of company sports associations (BSG), the SG became the BSG Industrie Bischofswerda in 1950. Later renaming took place, first in BSG Einheit and finally in BSG Motor Bischofswerda. In 1950 the BSG won the district championship title and from then on played in the fourth-class district class of Dresden. It was not until 1969 that the relay win and the associated qualification for the relegation games for the district league promotion succeeded. However, it failed because of the competitors BSG Progress Neugersdorf (successor club is FC Oberlausitz Neugersdorf ) and Wismut Pirna-Copitz .

The year 1972 marks a decisive point in development. The local agricultural machine combine Progress became a sponsoring company and it was renamed to BSG Progress Bischofswerda. With the new, financially strong carrier company, success quickly set in. In 1973, after the relegation games, he was promoted to second place behind BSG Motor Cossebaude in the Dresden District League , against Motor Niesky and Lok Pirna, Bischofswerda was able to prevail. Just three years later, the district championship title was celebrated and they rose to the second highest division, the GDR league . After escaping relegation in the first league season, the team established itself in the GDR league in the following seasons. 1984 succeeded the qualification for the GDR league reduced from five to two seasons. In the season 1985/86 the season victory and promotion to the GDR league were sensational .

In the top division progress Bischofswerda played as an outsider against relegation from the start. But it achieved respectable successes like a goalless draw against local rivals Dynamo Dresden . Already towards the end of the season, the most prestigious victory in the GDR era was achieved when the series champions Berliner FC Dynamo were defeated 2-0 by goals from Karsten Petersohn and Tino Gottlöber . At the end of the season there was still relegation. However, this was only sealed on the last matchday by a narrow defeat in a duel against direct rivals FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt .

The following season (1987/88) ended with a fifth place in the East German League Season B. The highlight of the season was reaching the quarter-finals of the GDR Cup ( FDGB-Pokal ), in which they lost 1-0 to FC Dynamo from Berlin. A year later succeeded again in the relay win and the associated second promotion to the GDR league. However, this time the top division had to be left again after only one season. However, the relegation was only sealed on the last day of the game by a 0-2 defeat against fellow promoted Stahl Eisenhüttenstadt .

The association was founded in 1991

With the political change in East Germany and the dissolution of the Combine Progress, the financial basis of the BSG fell away, but civil associations could be founded again. In the course of the liquidation of the sponsoring combine, the FV progress Bischofswerda was founded, which received its current name on May 21, 1991 (Bischofswerdaer Fußballverein 1908 eV). In terms of sport, they played in the northern relay of the NOFV-Liga in the 1990/91 season and only just failed to qualify for the all-German 2nd Bundesliga . The following three years you played consistently in the top of the Oberliga Nordost Staffel Süd.

1992 to 2001

In 1992 they won the second edition of the Saxony Cup . In the final in the youth stadium in Kamenz , FSV Hoyerswerda was defeated 2-0. The cup win also means qualification for the DFB Cup in the following season (1992/93). After a bye in the first round, the then second division VfB Oldenburg was defeated 3-2. In the third round, however, they failed to Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC with 0: 1 after extra time. In the same season, the club took second place behind FC Sachsen Leipzig in the Oberliga Nordost Staffel Süd. However, since the Leipzigers did not receive a license for the 2nd Bundesliga, Bischofswerda took part in the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga. After one win and three defeats in a group with 1. FC Union Berlin and Tennis Borussia Berlin , Bischofswerda was last in their relegation group and thus missed promotion.

In 1994 the BFV qualified for the newly created Regionalliga Nordost . However, this was only possible through the bankruptcy of the direct competitor 1. FC Markkleeberg . After a 12th place in the 1994/95 season, relegation to the Oberliga Nordost Staffel Süd took place in the following season. In the following years, the club occupied top positions in this league (with the exception of the 1996/97 season), but could not realize the recovery. Due to the regional league reform before the 2000/01 season, the Oberliga Nordost Staffel Süd was also sportingly upgraded. Because of this, the club rose as penultimate in the state league of Saxony .

Development from 2002

The first season in the Landesliga Sachsen was tackled with the goal of promotion. After a bad start, at the end of the season there was only sixth place in the table. In the following season there was even another relegation to the Dresden District League. Under President Jürgen Neumann and trainer Fred Wonneberger, the team was then radically restructured. This was crowned with success. In the 2003/04 season, the BFV achieved a sovereign relay victory. The district championship title was achieved with 23 wins from 30 games. The season was crowned by winning the district cup. In the final in Weinböhla , Heidenauer SV was defeated on penalties. Goalkeeper Rene Katzwinkel converted the decisive penalty.

After the promotion to the Landesliga Sachsen, the BFV achieved a respectable 9th place in the table as a promoted team. A year later, however, the renewed relegation to the district league took place. In this they took second place in the table in the 2006/07 season and thus missed the direct re-promotion. The sporting highlight of the season was the first round of the Sachsenpokal at the regional division Dynamo Dresden, which was celebrated as a floodlit farewell game for the Dresden Rudolf Harbig Stadium in front of 10,000 spectators. The 2007/08 season ended the BFV in 11th place in the district league table. Relegation was only ensured in the last game of the season, when Patrick Herrmann scored the 2-1 winning goal against Dynamo Dresden III in the second minute of stoppage time. In April 2008 the separation from trainer Fred Wonneberger took place. For him, the former player and current sports director Steffen Schmidt was used as an interim trainer. For the 2008/09 season, the former GDR player Matthias Müller was entrusted with the coaching post. In his third season as a coach, Müller led the BFV to the district championship title in the 2010/11 season and the associated promotion to the state league of Saxony .

As a promoted player in the 2011/12 season in the Landesliga Sachsen, the league was confidently managed. In the following season an even better result was aimed for with top-class new signings. However, after the team moved near the relegation places, the club separated from coach Matthias Müller in April 2013. Under the interim coaching team Mirko Ledrich and Tino Gottlöber, the FV 08 reached a midfield position at the end of the season. In May 2013 Erik Schmidt, the youth coach of SG Dynamo Dresden, was presented as the new coach for the 2013/14 season. In 2015, the Bischofswerda champions of the Landesliga Sachsen and rose to the Oberliga Nordost. Three years later, he was promoted to the Northeast Regionalliga as champions of the southern season of the Oberliga .

Women's and girls department

The club has had a women's and girls' department since the 2012/13 season. In its first season under coach Tino Gottlöber, the women's team won the district championship and the associated promotion to the state league of Saxony. The 2016/17 season ended in 3rd place in the Sachsenliga. Since the runner-up Silesia Görlitz did not submit an application for the regional league, champions RB Leipzig were promoted directly. In the 2017/18 season , the women of the BFV 08 only managed to stay in the Regionalliga on the last day of the match with a 2-2 draw against their direct competitor 1. FC Neubrandenburg 04 , which was only achieved because the goal difference was three goals higher.

Venues

Kampfbahn am Schmöllner Weg

The sports field on Schmöllner Weg was inaugurated in 1920 with a friendly match against the then first division club Sportlust Dresden and has served as a venue ever since. In 1925 the name was changed to Kampfbahn am Schmöllner Weg. A changing room was set up in 1952, and trusses and a club room were added in the following years. Upon completion, the stadium had an official capacity of 6,000 spectators. From 1979 the place was only used for training and youth games. A grass pitch was only moved in 1990. Due to this, the nickname emery disk had established itself for the arena by this time.

Stadium of the youth / Wesenitzsportpark

Between 1977 and 1979 the construction of a modern stadium area (Stadium of the Youth) took place on Clara-Zetkin-Straße (only a few meters from the arena on Schmöllner Weg). After an expansion in the mid-1980s, this stadium finally held 12,000 spectators and offered 1,000 seats. In the early 1990s, a new guest area was built, floodlights were installed and the name was changed to Wesenitzsportpark. This stadium served as the venue for the club's first team until 2004. The Wesenitzsportpark was extensively renovated between 2013 and 2015. Modern athletics facilities were built in this context. There was also the demolition of the grandstand on the back straight. The Wesenitzsportpark is used today for school and club sports.

The attendance record in this stadium dates from August 12, 1988, when 11,000 spectators followed the GDR Oberliga league game against Dynamo Dresden.

Two international matches were played in the youth stadium and the Wesenitzsportpark . On April 30, 1988, 4,500 spectators saw the victory of the GDR Olympic selection in the Olympic qualification against Iceland . The all-German U18 national team also celebrated a 3-0 win against the Egyptian selection on April 4, 2000.

Volksbank-Arena / Holzwaren-Simundt-Kampfbahn

From the year 2000, the arena on Schmöllner Weg was renovated in order to function again as a venue for the first team for the foreseeable future. The reasons for this were the oversizedness of the Wesenitzsportpark and its creeping decline due to unresolved ownership claims. It was only completed at the beginning of the 2004/05 season. The stadium now offers around 3000 seats, floodlights and a social building including a club restaurant. To refinance the project, the naming rights to the venue were sold to a local timber dealer. The designation as Holzwaren-Simundt-Arena led to disputes with the city of Bischofswerda as the owner of the site. As a compromise, they finally agreed on the name Holzwaren-Simundt-Kampfbahn, which combines the traditional name with the marketing of the naming rights.

The first point game in the Holzwaren-Simundt-Kampfbahn against local rivals Budissa Bautzen on August 13, 2004 saw 1,217 spectators. For the subsequent stadium opening on March 24, 2005, over 2,000 spectators came to a friendly against the then second division club Dynamo Dresden. The attendance record in an official game is 1,256 (home game against BSG Chemie Leipzig on March 15, 2015).

Due to a restructuring of the sponsorship, the stadium was renamed the Volksbank-Arena in August 2017 .

Bischofswerda-Süd artificial turf pitch

In June 2013, an artificial turf pitch was opened in the Bischofswerda-Süd district. This is primarily used by the club's junior teams.

Other

In the 2003/04 season the last three home games took place on the sports field of SV Burkau in nearby Burkau . The renovation of the arena was not finished at this time. The move was intended to prevent the poor condition of the lawn in the Wesenitzsportpark from becoming a disadvantage for the strong BFV 08 team in the promotion battle. All three games were won, promotion to the national league was successful. In the 2005/06 season the home game against FC Sachsen Leipzig II (1: 3) was played on the artificial turf pitch in Elstra due to the weather , where otherwise only some of the BFV's preparatory games took place during the winter breaks.
