The Football Club International Leipzig e. V. , or Inter Leipzig for short , is a soccer club from Leipzig whose first men's team plays in the Oberliga Nordost .

history

Foundation of an association

The association was founded on August 29, 2013. The former Mayor of Leipzig and current Thuringian Minister of Economics and Science, Wolfgang Tiefensee , is a member of the association's economic council. In order to obtain the right to play in the sixth class Sachsenliga , Inter Leipzig joined forces with the outsourced football team of SV See 90 , a club from See bei Niesky , which was insolvent at the time , and took over its starting place. Previously, an attempt to obtain the right to play through the merger with TuS Leutzsch Leipzig had failed .

For the 2014/15 season, FC Inter Leipzig started playing under its coach Heiner Backhaus and played its first competitive game in the Sachsenpokal with a 2-0 win against SV Lipsia Eutritzsch . Inter Leipzig secured their first league game victory in its history with a 2-0 win against VfL 05 Hohenstein-Ernstthal .

In October 2014, there were disputes between FC Inter and SV Wacker Leipzig , the main tenant in Mariannenpark , whereupon Wacker President Holger Drendel refused access to the sports field. The FC Inter, sub-tenant of a square, then obtained an injunction and had the gate lock open by the police.

In March 2017, FC Inter erected a building on the Mariannenpark sports complex without a building permit.

In the Sachsenpokal the team reached the quarter-finals, where they were eliminated with a 2-0 defeat against FSV Zwickau . The team ended the Sachsenliga season with a 7-0 win against Heidenauer SV as runner-up behind Bischofswerdaer FV 08 . She rose to the Oberliga Nordost .

Oberliga

At the beginning of the 2015/16 season , the club entered into a cooperation with the youth department of SV Fortuna Leipzig . According to its own statement, the club aims to act as a training club and springboard for young players. For example, the top scorer in the first half of the season, Kai Druschky, moved to Rot-Weiss Essen in the Regionalliga West during the 2015/16 winter break . Relegation was given as the goal for the first league season. In fact, the team finished the season in second place. In July 2015, Inter Leipzig presented a new club logo. From now on, instead of a unicorn, this adorned the head of a lion, Leipzig's heraldic animal .

During the summer break after the first league season it became known that the club was planning to build its own stadium. The venue on the site of the former Leipzig Post Station should offer space for up to 3,000 spectators. The current venue is the Hafenstadion in Torgau .

More teams

In addition to the Oberliga team, the club maintains a second men's team (U23) which currently plays in the district class in the Leipzig district . In addition, eight youth teams from G to A juniors belong to the club.
