The FC Eilenburg is a soccer club from the Saxon town of Eilenburg . The club's colors are blue-red. The FCE describes itself as the largest and most successful football club in the northern Saxony district .

history

1912-1944

According to its statutes, the club sees itself in the tradition of FC 1912 Eilenburg, which was founded by eight minors on December 14, 1912 in the Eilenburg pub "Zur Torgauer Höhe".

Due to a merger, the club renamed itself in 1919 to "Spielvereinigung 1912 Eilenburg". During the Weimar period, the game association was mostly represented in the 2nd class of the Gaus Nordwestsachsen in the Association of Central German Ball Sports Clubs (VMBV). Within the city, however, as a civil association, it could neither achieve the skill level nor the popularity of the sports association Vorwärts Eilenburg organized in the ATSB .

After the National Socialists came to power and the forward ban, the "Zwölfer", now playing in the Kursachsen district (Gau Mitte), were number 1 in the city for a short time. However, as the forward athletes gradually switched to the Reichsbahnsportgemeinschaft (RB) Eilenburg, the Spvg. 1912 lost this status again in the mid-1930s. In July 1939, the Zwölfer and RB finally merged, with gaming operations being continued as RB Eilenburg. This club achieved its greatest success in 1943 when it won the “Kursachsen” championship title. Due to the war-related circumstances, the last game was played on November 14, 1944 - then the team was canceled.

1945–1990

After the collapse of the Nazi regime, all clubs that had existed until then were banned in the Soviet occupation zone . The Reichsbahnsportverein was deleted from the register of associations on May 14, 1946. Nevertheless, football continued to be played in Eilenburg. A large part of the former Reichsbahnsportgemeinschaft found themselves in the team of the Betriebsportgemeinschaft (BSG) progress Eilenburg at the end of the 1940s , whose sponsoring company was the Eilenburger progress works. The team achieved a remarkable success on August 3, 1949. In the "Am Zoo" arena, the Eilenburg team defeated the representatives of BSG Waggonbau Dessau 3-1 in the final of the state cup and thus became the first FDGB state cup winner in Saxony- Stop . Together with the Dessau team, BSG Progress also qualified for the FDGB soccer cup competition that was held for the first time in 1949 and was held across the East Zone . While the Dessau won the cup, progress Eilenburg retired in the quarterfinals after a 1: 3 defeat at the second division BSG Carl Zeiss Jena .

In 1949/50, the BSG progress Eilenburg was also the second division and reached sixth place at the end of the season in the southern relay of the state class of Saxony-Anhalt . On July 1, 1950, the VEB Eilenburger Celluloid-Werk took over the sponsorship of the company sports association, which then bore the name BSG Chemie Eilenburg. She continued to play in the now third class national class (introduction of the GDR league ) until 1952 . In the summer of 1952, the states in the GDR were abolished in favor of districts , which meant that the GDR soccer league system also had to be changed. The regional leagues were replaced by the third-rate district leagues , and Eilenburg was incorporated into the Leipzig district league for the 1952/53 season . BSG Chemie was initially represented there for three seasons before it had to relegate to the Leipzig district class in 1955. After the creation of the Second GDR League, this was fifth class until 1963. Until 1988, the Eilenburger, who between 1972 and 1976 formed a game community with the army sports community Vorwärts Eilenburg (SpG Chemie / Vorwärts Eilenburg), switched between the district class and the district league. In 1978, the BSG Chemie was the district league team with a 5-4 victory after extra time over the BSG Lok Delitzsch district cup winner and took part in the GDR-wide soccer cup competition 1978/79. There she was defeated at home by the Halle district league club BSG Stahl Thale with 0-2 on penalties. In 1988 the BSG Chemie Eilenburg was relegated from the district class, to which it did not return until the end of the GDR soccer game in 1991.

Since 1990

After the chemical plant had ceased sponsoring the company sports association after the political change in 1990, BSG members founded the registered association FSV Grün / Weiß Eilenburg in the same year . In 1998 this Saxon national indoor champion and under coach Joachim Fritzsche was second in the district league. However, this could not hide the fact that the club in Eilenburg was again only number 2 in the city behind the meanwhile two-time district champion MFC Eilenburg (emerged from the Mörtitzer SV). After the promotion to the regional league was missed in the following year and the BSG locomotive had already joined the MFC in 1998, a merger took place in 2001.

Since then, as FC Eilenburg, the club has played a very good role at the top of Saxon football. In 2004, under coach Martin Polten, he won the indoor state championship title, won the Saxony championship title and promoted to the northeast soccer league , in which the club was able to hold out for five years. The greatest success was the third place in the 2006/07 series ahead of traditional East German clubs such as FC Sachsen Leipzig , Halleschen FC or FSV Zwickau . From the 2009/10 season the club will play again in the Landesliga Sachsen . In the 2016/17 season, FC Eilenburg succeeded in returning to the league.
