Tomislav "Pipi" Piplica [ ˈtɔmislaʋ ˈpiplitsa ] (born April 5, 1969 in Bugojno , Yugoslavia ) is a former Bosnian-Herzegovinian soccer goalkeeper and current soccer coach .

Club career

Beginnings

He began his career at the age of twelve with NK Iskra Bugojno as a field player. He only became a goalkeeper a year later. As a professional he played for NK Zagreb , NK Istra Pula , HNK Segesta Sisak , NK Samobor (all in Croatia ) and from 1998 for Energie Cottbus .

Energy Cottbus

In the 2001/02 season he was mainly in Germany through a header - own goal , in which it a harmless ball (an arc lamp ) by Marcel Witeczek of Borussia Monchengladbach hit on the head and went into the goal. For this goal he received the Raab of the week from Stefan Raab on TV total , which he received personally.

Because of his special features - he was the only player to have two autograph cards with different hairstyles in the 2004/05 season - he quickly became a crowd favorite in Cottbus. He was also voted Energie Cottbus' Player of the Year twice. "Pipi", as he is called by the fans , is known for his trips out of the gate, which occasionally caused displeasure among the fans.

Tomislav Piplica ended his career in 2009 and was a member of the coaching staff of the Cottbus U23 team until 2011.

Further stations

Until the end of 2012, Piplica held the post of sports director of SC Hartenfels Torgau 04 and also helped out there as a coach.

On November 9, 2012, at the age of 43, he announced his comeback as a goalkeeper for sixth division club FC Eilenburg after the regular goalkeeper broke his arm in an accident. After 17 championship appearances in 2012/13, Piplica sat in another ten league games in the 2013/14 season and also played an official league game in the following season 2014/15. From 2012 until his departure as a coach in the fall of 2015, Piplica was regularly on the bench as a substitute goalkeeper when he did not commit himself.

From 2015 Piplica was the goalkeeping coach of the regional division Wacker Nordhausen . After head coach Josef Albersinger was dismissed on September 21, 2016, he was appointed interim coach and carried out this task until the turn of the year 2016/17. In April 2017, he again held the position of head coach on an interim basis, replacing the dismissed René van Eck , until a successor was found in Volkan Uluç .

In February 2020, Piplica became assistant coach of the U17s and goalkeeping coach in the performance and development area of FC Carl Zeiss Jena . Piplica's son Zak Paulo played in the U19 of FC Carl Zeiss Jena and went to 1. FC Lok Leipzig in 2020. In July 2020, Piplica then moved to SpVgg Bayreuth as coach of the reserve team and sports coordinator for competitive sports.

National team

At the U20 Junior World Championships in 1987 in Chile , he was world champion with the Yugoslav team , which with u. a. Robert Prosinečki , Davor Šuker , Zvonimir Boban and Predrag Mijatović defeated the German team on penalties in the final . As a substitute keeper Piplica did not play a game. In the national team of Bosnia-Herzegovina Piplica had nine appearances. His wish to play for the Croatian national team did not come true as then coach Miroslav Blažević told him to cut his hair and then come back.

From 2010 to 2014 Piplica was the goalkeeper and assistant coach of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian national soccer team .
