Marcel Witeczek (born October 18, 1968 in Tychy , Poland ) is a former German soccer player who was born in Poland.

Marcel Witeczek was born in Tychy and played football on the street in his hometown . At the age of 13, his friends persuaded him to join the local football club, but a short time later he did not return with his parents from a vacation in Germany. Witeczek, whose parents received the resettler status, then began playing football in the C-youth of the Post Sport Club Oberhausen . After one and a half years at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen , he moved to the youth department of Bayer 05 Uerdingen in 1985 at the age of 16 , which provided him with a training contract as a retail salesman. His family moved to a company-owned apartment of Bayer AG to; his father got a new job. From 1986 to 1991 he was a member of the Uerdinger first team, for which he played 142 games and scored 22 goals. He made his debut on August 8, 1986 (1st matchday) - in the 81st minute for Werner Buttgereit - in a 2-0 win in the away game against FC 08 Homburg ; his first goal on November 8th (matchday 13) also meant the final score in a 3-1 home win over VfL Bochum . In his first season he came to one game in the DFB Cup and three games in the UEFA Cup . After a world tournament with the German U-20 national team in 1987, in which he was the top scorer, he had an offer from AS Monaco that he did not accept.

In 1991 Witeczek moved to 1. FC Kaiserslautern , for whom he played two national and ten international cup games. In 1993 he went to FC Bayern Munich , with whom he became German champions in 1994 and 1997. 1997 Witeczek moved to Borussia Mönchengladbach ; with the club he rose in 1999 to the 2nd Bundesliga and 2001 again. After two more seasons he changed club and division: For SG Wattenscheid 09 he was initially in the Regionalliga Nord and one season in the Oberliga Westfalen (4th division). He let his football career come to an end after the 2006/07 season in Baden-Württemberg with the state division club FC 07 Albstadt .

Witeczek played a total of 410 Bundesliga (50 goals), 64 second division (9 goals) and 29 regional league games (3 goals) as well as 23 national (1 goal) and 32 international cup games (9 goals).

National team

Witeczek played in his youth in the national school team as a striker . With the U-17 team he was second in the World Cup in 1985 and with the U-20 team in 1987 , and he was the top scorer in both tournaments ( 1985 : 6 games, 8 goals / 1987 : 6 games, 7 goals).

He was appointed nine times for the U-21 national team. He made his debut on April 26, 1988 in Kreuzlingen in an 8-0 win over the Swiss team, to which he contributed two goals - 1-0 and 4-0. He played his last game for this national team in the quarter-final first leg of the U-21 European Championship on March 14, 1990 in Simferopol in a 1-1 draw against the Soviet Union .

Witeczek has been playing in the company sports association AOK Rheinland / Hamburg since 2006 , the aim of which is to establish and maintain contact with partner companies through sport. Witeczek has played 45 games for the company sports association and scored 38 goals and was AOK national cup winner in 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010. He also won the AOK Hospital Cup in 2006 and 2008.

Witeczek has also been active as a triathlete for several years . After his football career, he ran his first marathon.

Together with his former Gladbach teammate Michael Klinkert , he is currently organizing tournaments, training units and courses for children and young people on behalf of the AOK education center.
