FC Bayern Munich became the first in the 1986/87 season in the German Bundesliga and thus German men's championship .

Season overview

In the 1986/87 season, FC Bayern Munich won their third title in a row by six points. This was Bayern's second championship hat-trick after 1972 to 1974 and again all three titles were won with coach Udo Lattek . Overall, this was the tenth German championship of Bayern, which was the sole record champions before 1. FC Nürnberg . Munich lost only one game, the home game against Leverkusen with 0: 3, this is a record (together with the Bundesliga 2012/13 with again only one defeat against Leverkusen). The runner-up championship of HSV, which won the DFB-Pokal, was surprising. It was Ernst Happel's last season . Mönchengladbach started a furious race to catch up from 12th to 3rd place. They also reached the semi-finals in the cup and the UC semi-finals last season with Jupp Heynckes as coach. Borussia Dortmund, which was still in relegation last year, finished fourth, the best position since 1967, while Bavaria's long-term rival Bremen came fifth.
