Michael Rummenigge (born February 3, 1964 in Lippstadt ) is a former German soccer player .
Career
societies
Born out of the youth of Borussia Lippstadt , Rummenigge, at the age of 17, followed his brother Karl-Heinz to Bundesliga club FC Bayern Munich in 1981 . At the beginning of his professional career in 1982/83 he had a difficult start in the star ensemble of Bayern because he always had to withstand comparisons with his brother. He made his Bundesliga debut on May 28, 1983 (33rd matchday) in the 0-1 defeat in the home game against FC Schalke 04, when he came on for Bernd Martin at the second half . In the following season he was used in 33 of 34 league games and scored eleven goals, the first on August 31, 1983 (4th matchday) in a 3-2 win in the away game against Kickers Offenbach . By the end of the 1987/88 season he had contributed to five titles with 152 appearances and 44 goals.
From 1988 to 1993 he played for league rivals Borussia Dortmund . Initially not very popular with the fans, at the end of its first season, Borussia won their first title since the 1960s: the national club cup - with a 4-1 win over Werder Bremen at the Olympiastadion Berlin . In the 1991/92 season he was team captain under coach Ottmar Hitzfeld . In 1993 Michael Rummenigge played with BVB in the UEFA Cup finals against Juventus Turin (1: 3 and 0: 3). After 157 league games and 36 goals for Borussia, he moved to Japan after the start of the 1993 season .
In the newly founded J. League , the Japanese professional league, he played with the Urawa Red Diamonds and stayed there until the end of 1995, before he had to end his active professional career in early 1996 due to a serious toe injury.
National team
As a youth player at Borussia Lippstadt, he made the leap into the national team. On December 2, 1980 he came to Hořovice in a 0-1 defeat against the selection of Czechoslovakia for use in the U-18 national team . He scored his only goal in his last appearance in this national team on April 1, 1982 in Pirmasens in a 3-0 victory over Luxembourg.
For the U-21 national team he played nine times, for the first time on September 6, 1983 in Gyöngyös in a goalless draw against Hungary . He scored his first of four goals in his second appearance on October 4, 1983 in Arnsberg in a 2-1 victory in the European Championship qualifier against Austria . The last time he came on September 24, 1985 in Eskilstuna in the 1: 2 defeat in the European Championship qualifier against Sweden used.
In his two international matches in the senior national team , he played a total of 28 minutes: On October 26, 1983, he came on as a substitute for Norbert Meier in the European Championship qualifier in the 5-1 win against Turkey in the 81st minute . October 1986 in Vienna in the 1: 4 defeat against Austria in the 71st minute for Olaf Thon . In the first game, he played alongside his brother, who scored two goals.

Since 2012 Rummenigge has been managing the Schwarzer & Rummenigge Sports Management GmbH & Co. KG , based in Berlin, together with Nicolai Schwarzer . This looks after u. a. the former German national soccer player Jérôme Boateng .
He also runs a sports marketing - agency and a football school in Dortmund.
Together with a partner, he maintains a soccer hall in Münster and sells soccer products, small playing fields and padel courts under the label Trendsport Rummenigge .
Since 2004 he has been socially committed to the initiative “ Don't give up drugs” .
At the end of June 2007 Rummenigge obtained his soccer teacher diploma ( UEFA Pro license) at the German Sport University Cologne .
He is a member of the traditional BVB team.
Michael Rummenigge is the younger brother of Karl-Heinz and Wolfgang Rummenigge . He is married to Carolin, geb. Felderbauer, and has three children. His son Marco (* 1988) was also a soccer player, but had to end his career due to persistent knee problems.
