Borussia Mönchengladbach became the first in the 1976/77 season of the German Bundesliga and thus German men's championship .

Season overview

This season Borussia Mönchengladbach managed the title hat trick, they won the third championship title in a row, the fifth overall. This was previously only Bayern Munich have succeeded ( 1972 / 73 / 74 ).

The Gladbach team started the season with a record of 23: 3 points (10 wins, 3 draws). Then they went through a crisis and often lost (balance of the 21 other games: 21:21 points). After the 25th matchday they had to let Eintracht Braunschweig take the lead. A week later, the Gladbachers were able to recapture the championship lead and stayed there until the end of the season. On the last day of the match, they achieved a 2-2 win at Bayern Munich. This was Franz Beckenbauer's last game for Bayern.

In addition to runner-ups FC Schalke 04, Eintracht Braunschweig, Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Bayern Munich qualified for the UEFA Cup in seventh place. The first FC Köln won the DFB Cup (1:. N 1 v and 1: 0 against Hertha BSC ) and the Hamburger SV won the European Cup winner. This allowed Bayern Munich to still take part in the UEFA Cup. In 1997, TSV 1860 Munich also qualified seventh for the UEFA Cup.

FC Bayern Munich managed the feat at VfL Bochum to win 6: 5 after a 4-0 deficit .
