Rudolf Frickel (born July 16, 1932 ) is a former German football referee . The highlight of his career was the 1977 DFB Cup final between 1. FC Köln and Hertha BSC ; However, the game ended 1: 1 afterwards and thus a replay took place which, however, was directed by Klaus Ohmsen . In 1978 Rudolf Frickel was voted Germany's Referee of the Year.

On November 27, 1976, Rudolf Frickel broke the Bundesliga match between 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Fortuna Düsseldorf prematurely in the 76th minute when the score was 1-0 for Düsseldorf. Düsseldorf won the replay 2-0. The reason for the abandonment of the game was a spectator throwing a bottle, who hit the linesman and injured him. This should remain the only game abandonment for the next 36 years, before the game between FC St. Pauli and Schalke 04 was canceled in the 2010/11 season on April 1, 2011 when Schalke was 2-0. The reason was again a tossing of a beer mug by a spectator. The game was rated 3-0 for Schalke.
