Marco Fritz (born October 3, 1977 in Korb ) is a German football referee .

Fritz has been a member of SV Breuningsweiler since he was six and has been a referee since 1997. He whistles in the Württemberg regional association and has been a DFB referee since 2006 . In the 2008/09 season he was used for the first time in the 2nd Bundesliga . During the season he showed 34 yellow cards and one red card . At the age of 32 he rose to the Bundesliga after a season in the second division . He made his first appearance there on August 22, 2009 at the home game of SC Freiburg against Bayer 04 Leverkusen .

His wrong decision on January 17, 2010 in the second division match between MSV Duisburg and FSV Frankfurt caused a sensation when he saw a shot on goal that ricocheted off the crossbar and bounced back about a meter from the goal line as a hit to make it 5-0 - Final stand recognized for the MSV Duisburg.

Fritz was placed on the list of FIFA referees alongside Felix Zwayer in 2012 . Babak Rafati and Peter Sippel were removed from the list in return. He was used internationally for the first time in the qualification for the U-19 European Championship in 2012 , when he led the game between Greece and Turkey on May 23, 2012.

Together with his assistants Dominik Schaal and Marcel Pelgrim, he led the 2015/16 DFB Cup final on May 21, 2016 in the Berlin Olympic Stadium between FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund .
