Frank Willenborg (born February 10, 1979 ) is a German football referee . Since the 2016/17 season he has been used in the highest German league, the Bundesliga .

Willenborg has been a DFB referee since 2004 and whistles for SV Gehlenberg in the Lower Saxony state association . He has been in charge of games in the 2nd Bundesliga since the 2007/08 season until he was promoted to the first Bundesliga in 2016. Previously, he was already on the road as an assistant referee at Florian Meyer's side . When Meyer resigned from the Bundesliga as a referee due to reaching the age limit of the DFB, Willenborg took his place. At the age of 37, Willenborg was relatively old for promotion to the first Bundesliga at that time. He made his debut in the first division on September 20, 2016 in the game between SV Darmstadt 98 and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim (final score 1: 1).

Willenborg is a secondary school teacher and lives in Osnabrück with his wife and two children .
