Florian Meyer (born November 21, 1968 in Braunschweig ) is a former German football referee .

Career

Florian Meyer was a referee for the German Football Association (DFB) from 1996 . From 1998 he headed Bundesliga games . He made his debut on October 16, 1998 in the game TSV 1860 Munich against VfL Bochum .

Meyer, who lives in Burgdorf , is a member of the RSV Braunschweig . In 2005 he was nominated for the DFB Cup final for the first time , and he took over the task again in 2014 .

From 2002 Meyer was a FIFA referee. He was used in the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League . He also directed international matches and qualifying matches for the 2006 and 2010 soccer world championships . At the EM 2012 he was one of the two German goal referees. In addition, he has been requested to referee numerous games in Middle Eastern leagues.

In 2009 he was named referee of the year by the DFB . In a kicker survey of 286 Bundesliga players, Meyer was voted the best referee in the first half of the 2010/11 season. Since then, he has been named the best referee in the Bundesliga in all of the biannual surveys by professionals.

Bastian Dankert and Tobias Stieler were registered for the FIFA list for 2014 ; they replace Meyer and Thorsten Kinhöfer , who had to retire due to old age.

On May 17, 2014, Meyer led the cup final between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich. Discussions after the game were caused by a situation in which Mats Hummels shot the ball at the Munich goal and Dante cleared behind the line. Meyer decided to continue playing, which sparked violent protests from Dortmund. Meyer then refused to whistle a BVB game.

He ended his referee career on May 14, 2016.

European Football Championship 2012

Meyer took part as " goal referee " at the European Championships 2012 in Poland and Ukraine as part of the DFB referee team around Wolfgang Stark .
