Bastian Dankert (born June 9, 1980 in Schwerin ) is a German football referee .

Career

Dankert lives in Rostock and is a member of the Brüsewitzer SV at the gates of Schwerin. His main job is the managing director and marketing manager of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Football Association .

The sports scientist was appointed to the Bundesliga for the first time in the 2012/13 season . There he made four missions by the winter break. His first encounter in the German upper house of football was the goalless encounter on the fourth day of the match between Fortuna Düsseldorf and SC Freiburg on September 22, 2012. He dealt four yellow cards, especially in the final phase of the game, among other things because of a so-called pack formation .

In 2014, Dankert and Tobias Stieler were registered for the FIFA referee list. They replace Florian Meyer and Thorsten Kinhöfer , who had to retire due to old age.

On October 18, 2014 in the match between FC Bayern Munich and SV Werder Bremen , Dankert was the first Bundesliga referee to use the free-kick spray introduced at the previous World Cup .

On October 18, 2015, he made a serious mistake in the game between 1. FC Köln and Hannover 96 when the Hanoverian player Leon Andreasen scored the only goal of the game by hand. Dankert recognized the hit without - as is officially intended in contentious situations - asking Andreasen whether there was a handball. According to the television images, Dankert admitted his mistake.

At the end of April 2018, Dankert was appointed by FIFA as one of 13 video referees for the 2018 World Cup in Russia . A year later, he also acted as video referee at the 2019 Women's World Cup in France .
