Markus Schmidt (born August 31, 1973 ) is a German football referee .

Life

Schmidt lives in Stuttgart , is divorced and has two children. Until 2012 he was a consultant for personnel development at the energy supplier EnBW . Since 2012 he has been Head of Personnel at the Stuttgart S-Bahn .

Soccer

Schmidt has been a DFB referee for SV Sillenbuch since 1997 . Since 1998 he has been directing games in the second division and since 2003 games in the first division. His first game in the upper house of football, in which Hertha BSC met SC Freiburg , was on August 16, 2003.

In December 2010, a match led by Schmidt on February 28, 2009 between VfL Bochum and Energie Cottbus came under suspicion of manipulation. An Italian player arrested for betting fraud boasted that he knew the outcome of the game half an hour earlier.
