Sascha Stegemann (born December 6, 1984 in Niederkassel ) is a German football referee .

Stegemann has been leading games at the DFB level since 2008 . In January 2012 he was put on the list of DFL referees for the 2nd Bundesliga , in which he had made 20 appearances by summer 2014. The promotion to the 1st Bundesliga took place in the 2014/15 season . For Herbert Fandel , the chairman of the DFB referee commission, Stegemann is a “clear and courageous match manager who will enrich the team in the Bundesliga”. The nomination was also made in view of the fact that a number of long-standing Bundesliga referees will reach the age limit in the following years and will therefore be eliminated.

On August 31, 2014, Stegemann led his first Bundesliga game with the match between 1. FSV Mainz 05 and Hannover 96 . On May 25, 2017, he was referee for the first leg of the relegation to the Bundesliga 2017/18 between VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Braunschweig . In the relegation game, Stegemann decided after a handball on penalty for VfL, which Mario Gómez converted to the 1-0 final score. This decision was considered controversial.

At the beginning of 2019, Stegemann was nominated by the DFB as a FIFA referee. His nomination came after Manuel Graefe retired due to old age . He made his international debut on July 24, 2019 in the qualifying match of the UEFA Champions League between NK Maribor and AIK Solna .

Stegemann lives in Niederkassel and whistles for 1. FC Niederkassel in the Mittelrhein Football Association . He has a degree in public administration and has passed the first state examination in law.

In 2019, Stegemann acted as video referee at the 2019 Women's World Cup in France .
