Career

Felix Zwayer has been a DFB referee since 2004 . From 2007 he was used as a referee in the 2nd Bundesliga and also as an assistant referee in the 1st Bundesliga. Before the start of the 2009/10 season, Zwayer was nominated as a referee for the Bundesliga. He made his debut on August 15, 2009 at the home game of Hannover 96 against 1. FSV Mainz 05 .

Zwayer has been a FIFA referee alongside Marco Fritz since 2012. Babak Rafati and Peter Sippel were removed from the list in return. Zwayer made his international debut on May 25, 2012 when qualifying for the 2012 U-19 European Championship . He led the game between the Czech Republic and France in Prague. In an international match he was first used on June 1, 2012. He was in action at the friendly between Austria and Ukraine in Innsbruck .

In May 2012, Zwayer resigned from his previous club, Hertha BSC , and returned to his home club SC Charlottenburg .

In 2015 Zwayer was nominated by FIFA for its first FIFA tournament, the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand . Two years later, he also took part in the 2017 U-20 World Cup in South Korea , this time as a video referee . Subsequently, he was classified by UEFA in the highest referee category ("elite") and is theoretically a candidate for leading decisive games in UEFA club competitions.

On February 21, 2016, Zwayer brought a nine-minute break in the game between Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund for a first in the history of the Bundesliga. Leverkusen's coach Roger Schmidt refused to leave the stadium interior after being reprimanded. Schmidt was then sentenced by the DFB to five games, two of which were suspended.

At the end of April 2018, Zwayer was appointed by FIFA as one of 13 video assistants for the 2018 World Cup in Russia . A year later, he also acted as video referee at the 2019 Women's World Cup in France .

On May 19, 2018, Zwayer led the 2017/18 DFB Cup final between FC Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt in the Berlin Olympic Stadium. During stoppage time of this game, Zwayer watched a controversial scene on the edge of the pitch screen several times in which Kevin-Prince Boateng touched Javi Martínez on the foot in the penalty area without playing the ball. However, Zwayer did not give a possible penalty.

On May 11, 2019, Zwayer chaired the Greek Cup final between AEK Athens and PAOK Thessaloniki . The game played in the Athens Olympic Stadium ended 1-0 for PAOK.

Zwayer is a real estate agent and lives in Berlin .

Soccer betting scandal 2005

Zwayer was one of four Berlin referees who started the soccer betting scandal in 2005 about then referee Robert Hoyzer with their statements . However, in the wake of this scandal, Zwayer was also banned for six months because he initially did not report the match manipulations by Hoyzer he knew and also had accepted 300 euros from Hoyzer before a game between Wuppertaler SV Borussia against the second team from Werder Bremen to act as a line judge to help avoid critical situations for Wuppertaler SV. The verdict against him only became known in 2014 - the DFB had not published it. The scandal was generally not 100% cleared up.
