Johannes Malka

Johannes Malka (born July 16, 1922 in Herten ; † February 23, 2017 ) was a German football referee .

Malka began in 1933 as a youth player with the game association Herten . His career as a first team player, which was interrupted by military service, he had to break off due to a knee injury, whereupon he decided to pursue a career as a referee. Between 1954 and 1969 he was a referee for the DFB and from 1963 to 1969 he headed a total of 51 Bundesliga soccer matches . In his first appearance on August 24, 1963 in the game Eintracht Frankfurt against 1. FC Kaiserslautern, he whistled the first penalty in this league after 38 minutes .

He was also used in 58 international encounters. He was also a member of the DFB's referee staff and chaired the DFB referee committee from 1979 to 1995. He was a member of the UEFA Referees Committee from 1978 to 1996, including twelve years as deputy and two years as chairman. During his tenure, he introduced the referee observers who sit in the stands at every game.

The former head of the city of Herten received numerous awards, including an honorary member of the DFB.
