Werner Treichel

Werner Treichel (born January 14, 1921 - March 3, 1978 ) was a German football referee .

Treichel, who is a full-time employee at the Federal Insurance Agency for Salaried Employees , was a FIFA referee at the DFB from 1957 to 1966 . From 1957 to 1963 he headed six international matches, including two appearances in qualifying for the 1958 World Cup .

At the international level, he also led some meetings in the early years of the European Cup competitions.

In the years before the introduction of the Bundesliga , he made eleven appearances in championship finals . Between 1963 and 1966 he headed 20 Bundesliga games.

It is a special honor that he was entrusted with the management of a DFB Cup final twice in 1955 and 1958 . Only Albert Dusch , Gerhard Schulenburg and, most recently, Herbert Fandel also had the privilege to rule in more than one German cup final.

In 1964 he also led the final of the German Amateur Championship , which the amateurs of Hanover 96 in Hagen won 2-0 against SV Wiesbaden .

In August 1966 he whistled for the last time in a friendly match between Hamburger SV and London's Chelsea FC in the Volksparkstadion . The hosts won the game 3-1

In 1950 Werner Treichel was a co-founder of the referee training group in Charlottenburg, which he chaired until 1965. In 1955 he was elected chairman of the Berlin Arbitration Association. In 1964 he was one of the founding members of the DFB teaching staff, along with Hans Ebersberger and Johannes Malka from Herten from Bayreuth .

In the 1970s he was referee chairman of the German Football Association until his death. He died unexpectedly in March 1978 as a result of an intestinal operation.

In the literature there is a contribution from him in the 1958 football yearbook published by Carl Koppehel . Together with Koppehel he is also the author of the 9th edition of The Referee in Football , which was published in 1977 as part of the DFB series of publications.
