Manfred Neuner (born November 20, 1945 in Leimen in Baden ; † December 23, 2001 ) was a German football referee from Leimen in Baden .

From 1980 to 1992 he headed a total of 167 games in the first and second Bundesliga and the 1990 DFB Cup final .

Life

Manfred Neuner was born on November 20, 1945. Professionally, Manfred Neuner was sales manager at Mercedes-Benz . He died on December 23, 2001 at the age of only 56 as a result of a heart attack.

Career

On September 4, 1982 Neuner made his Bundesliga debut. From 1982 to 1992 he headed 102 games in the Bundesliga and from 1980 to 1992 another 65 games in the second Bundesliga . The highlight of his career was the DFB Cup final on May 19, 1990 between 1. FC Kaiserslautern and Werder Bremen , which Kaiserslautern won 3-2.

criticism

In 1993 it became known that the former Schalke President Günter Eichberg had given Manfred Neuner a hunting rifle before his 100th Bundesliga game. This caused criticism, but according to Eichberg, Neuner had previously obtained permission to accept the gift from the DFB .
