1 win after extra time
2 win after penalty shoot-out

1 round

The first round offered a few surprises. Four second division clubs had to admit defeat to lower-class clubs. Four other second division clubs only saved themselves in the second round on penalties. The three first division teams prevailed, however, sovereign.

The game between Weinberg and Regensburg had to be repeated. In the penalty shootout, after the first five shooters of both teams were through, it was a draw. The referee then told the goalkeepers to shoot next. Regensburg protested and was successful. But the second chance didn't help Regensburg either. Weinberg won the replay 3-1.

The FCR 2001 Duisburg needed the extension to prevail against the local rivals from Essen. In front of 3,750 spectators, including DFB President Theo Zwanziger and Otto Rehhagel , the favored lionesses took the lead in the 43rd minute through Simone Laudehr . In the 63rd minute, Linda Bresonik equalized with a directly converted free kick . In extra time, Duisburg set the tone. The 1. FFC Frankfurt had less trouble with the second division leaders 1. FC Saarbrücken . Sandra Smisek (30th, 42nd), Birgit Prinz (37th) and Kerstin Garefrekes (44th) made the decision in the first half. 1,200 spectators saw the encounter in the Main metropolis.

final

Before the final in the Olympiastadion Berlin

In a low-level final, 1. FFC Frankfurt happily won the cup for the sixth time. During the entire game, torrential rain fell over the Olympic Stadium. After just three minutes, the Frankfurt women took the lead. Anne van Bonn brought down Birgit Prinz in the penalty area. The due penalty turned Renate Lingor for guidance. After two missed chances, the Duisburg women equalized shortly before half-time. After a cross from Fatmire Bajramaj , Sonja Fuss was there. In the second half Duisburg determined the game, but could not convert the superiority into goals. Inka Grings scored a goal in the 83rd minute, which was not given due to offside . After 90 minutes it stayed at 1-1 and the game went to penalties without extra time. Duisburg's coach Thomas Obliers surprisingly changed goalkeeper Kathrin Längert and sent Lena Hohlfeld into the game. With this change, Obliers brought unrest to his team and the Duisburg women showed nerves. Frankfurt goalkeeper Ursula Holl saved Vanessa Martini and Patricia Hanebeck's penalties and thus became the heroine of the game. When Petra Wimbersky converted the decisive penalty, the 1. FFC was the new record cup winner.
