The Turn- und Sportverein Köln rechtsrheinisch 1874 e. V. ( TuS Köln rrh. 1874 for short ) is a German sports club from Cologne . The club practices athletics , soccer , touch , tennis , swimming , fitness and gymnastics as sports .

history

The TuS Köln rrh. 1874 is 1946 from the merger of the Turnverein Kalk 1874 e. V. and the gymnastics club Köln-Höhenberg e. V. emerged. Since 1919, the club has been based on the club's own sports facility on the Merheimer Heide in the Höhenberg district of Cologne . The association, which currently has around 1200 members, is primarily dedicated to children's and youth sports and is involved in competitive sports in addition to a range of popular sports. He celebrated successes especially in athletics. Several German youth and junior champions have emerged from this area in recent years. The greatest sporting success was the 7th place of TuS runner and Olympic participant Akosua Serwaa at the World Athletics Championships in 2003 . The women's soccer team of TuS Köln rrh. 1874 placed in the top third of the women's second division from 2005 to 2008 and reached the DFB Cup semi-finals in 2008.

athletics

The athletics department is focused on youth work and has been producing nationwide successful athletes for many years. In the past, German youth and junior champions included H. Krudwig, G. Karge, L. Bömmelburg, Kopp, Hamacher, Langmann, Andreas Kunz, Robert Krämer, O. Maychzrak, Lars Jucken and Stefan Wieser. From the medium and long-distance training group trained by Günter Kuxdorf († May 13, 2013) and the sprint and jump training group led by Georgi Kamenezki, athletes regularly qualify for the German championships. In 2012, the 400-meter hurdle runner Christine Salterberg became German U20 champion and came in 9th at the U20 World Championships. The greatest international success was achieved by the 800-meter TuS runner Akosua Serwaa, who took 7th place at the 2003 World Athletics Championships and took part in the 2004 Olympic Games . In addition, TuS Köln rrh. In 1874 traditionally one of the most successful clubs in the age group in Germany. Many German championship titles have been achieved in senior sports in recent years. Particularly noteworthy are the world and European championship titles of Winfried Schmidt, who holds the German record over 10,000 m in the age group of over 60s with 34:05 min.

Touch

2005 rrh was created within TuS Köln. 1874 a separate department for the team sport touch , a variant of rugby with little contact and mostly played in mixed-sex teams . In 2006 and again in 2008, the department won the German championship, which takes place annually in the form of national cup tournaments. In the meantime, the department broke away from TuS Köln rrh. 1874 and appeared independently as Touch Rugby Colonia , but returned in 2014 as an affiliated department and was, among other things, German runner-up in 2016. In addition to its tournament successes, the department is well known beyond the region because of its youth work, participation in international championships such as the North Sea Touch Series and the sending of national players to European and world championships. In addition to the Cologne Cup , the department organized the popular especially for beginners Pudelmützencup , which traditionally takes place in January and possible snowfall. Training sessions and games are held in the Höhenberger Sportpark, the Merheimer Heide and on the open campus of the University of Cologne .

Women's soccer

In 1996 TuS Köln rrh. In 1874 the women's soccer department of the German record champions in women's soccer SSG 09 Bergisch Gladbach was transferred to its own women's soccer department and played in the then second-class regional league. After relegation to the association league in 1999 and a direct return to the regional league, he qualified for the 2nd Bundesliga in 2004. For organizational reasons, however, the space could not be used. In 2005 they qualified again as champions of the Regionalliga West and the team ended the first second division season in 2006 in fourth place. The Middle Rhine Cup was won in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004 and 2005 and reached the DFB Cup quarter-finals in 1999, 2005 and 2007. In 2008 the team even reached the DFB Cup semi-finals. In July 2008 the license for the 2nd Bundesliga was passed on and the women's soccer teams switched to Bayer 04 Leverkusen . A short time later, the rebuilding of the women's soccer department in the children's and youth area began. The department is enjoying a brisk increase in membership and in the 2010/11 season a women's team started playing again for the first time.

tennis

The tennis department of TuS Köln rrh. was founded on January 11, 1948. However, there was already a first tennis court with a corresponding tennis team on the Merheimer Heide in 1923. A short time later, the first championships were held with around 40 members. Since then, the number of tennis courts and members has grown steadily. In 1960 the first clubhouse was built, which was replaced in 1983 by the members of the department with a contemporary new building, which is still the linchpin of tennis on the beautiful grounds in the country.

In 2016 the board of the tennis department, together with the board of the main club, entered into a cooperation with the tennis academy "Yonex Concept Tennis Base" under the direction of Jens Neumann and Tom Widdig to promote training for children, youth and club.

Sporting successes: Gaby Kirschbaum achieved a great sporting success in 1977 by winning the Cologne City Championships. In 2005 the men won the district cup for the first time and also took 2nd place in the TVM Cup (association competition for district cup winners). In 2006, men 55 also managed to win the district cup. In the winter 2018/19 indoor season, the men's team even plays in the third highest division.

       

Today the club has 6 tennis courts (5 tournament courts and 1 training field), a newly renovated tennis home and members who love to play.

The club area is located in the Höhenberger Sportpark on Frankfurter Strasse in the Höhenberg district of Cologne on the right bank of the Rhine and is home to a synthetic running track, a grass soccer field (stadium of the former 2nd women's Bundesliga team) as well as a hard soccer field and five tennis courts on approx. 15,000 m² . There is also a club restaurant with a beer garden under old trees on the site. Athletes, footballers and tennis players train on the facility and national athletics competitions take place here on a regular basis.
