Christine Salterberg (born June 9, 1994 in Cologne ) is a German athlete who has specialized in the 400-meter hurdles . In this discipline she became German champion in Nuremberg in 2018. In addition, she also runs sprints between 100  and 400  meters and relays .

career path

Salterberg grew up in Rösrath and graduated from the Freiherr-vom-Stein Gymnasium there in 2013 . Since autumn 2014 she has been a primary school teacher student at the German Sport University Cologne and the University of Cologne .

Athletic career

Christine Salterberg began playing sport at an early age: first with tennis at the age of six , then with athletics when she was eight. Your first trainer at TuS Köln rrh. , Georgi Kamenezki, soon recognized her talent for the hurdles.

In 2009, at the age of 14, Salterberg ran the stadium round that had been ordered with hurdles for the first time and immediately set the standard for the German Youth Championships , although she was still in the W15 age group.

In 2010 Salterberg made it at the German Youth Championships over the 400 meter hurdles to the B final of the B youth (U18).

In 2011 she became German U18 runner-up over the hurdles. A month earlier she had her first international appearance at the U18 World Championships in Lille , where she was eliminated due to a false start in the preliminary round.

In 2012 Salterberg reached 9th place at the U20 World Championships in Barcelona and a week later became German U20 champion. At the end of the year she led the German U20 best list with 57.65 seconds over the 400 meter hurdles.

In 2013, Salterberg took 6th place in the final of the U20 European Championships in Rieti and was able to defend her title as German U20 champion a week later. At the end of the year she led the German U23 best list again with 57.94 seconds over the 400 meter hurdles.

In 2014, the first German championship title over 400 meter hurdles followed in the U23 age group and with a personal best of 57.55 seconds a 3rd place at the German championships for active athletes. At the end of the year she led the German U23 best list with 57.55 s over the 400 meter hurdles and was one of Europe's top eight in the U23.

In 2015, Salterberg switched to coach Andreas Gentz ​​at the LT DSHS Cologne and was the first German indoor champion in the active field with the 4 x 200 meter relay. In the 60-meter hurdles she came in 8th place. Over 100 meter hurdles Salterberg was able to become German university champion. With the 4 x 100 meter relay , she won bronze at the German Championships , where she came eighth over the 100 meter hurdles.

Also in 2016 she was German champion with the 4 x 400 meter relay of the LT DSHS Cologne: in the U23 and in the active. Over the 400 meter hurdles, Salterberg took 3rd place at the German Championships .

In 2017 she again took bronze at the German championships over the 400 meter hurdles.

In 2018 Salterberg became German champion over the 400 meter hurdles for the first time in Nuremberg and again took the title with the 4 x 400 meter relay.

In 2019 she became German university champion over the 400 meter hurdles in Cologne and took part in the 30th Summer Universiade in Naples. Here she was 7th over the 400 meter hurdles and 6th in the German 4 x 400 meter relay. At the German Championships in Berlin, Salterberg also took bronze over the 400 meter hurdles as he did at the German Relay Championships in Wetzlar with the 4 x 400 meter relay of the LT DSHS Cologne.

She set her current personal best over the 400 meter hurdles in 2019 at the German Championships in Berlin with 56.57 seconds.
