German Athletics Youth Championships

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For the first time, German youth championships in athletics were held in 1937. Today, under 20-year-olds ( U20 for short ) are eligible to participate . When the competitions for under 18-year-olds ( U18 for short ) were introduced in 1988, the event was merged with the U20 championships right from the start.

The exact designation of the competitions has been inconsistent even in the specialist bodies over the years. The count of events in both age groups is continuous.

As further championships for young people, German U16 athletics championships for under 16-year-old girls and boys have been held since 2014 .

Some disciplines are not held at the main event. For example, the 3 x 800 meter relay of the youth takes place within the framework of the German championships and is also included in the result lists of these.

On the other hand, the 3-by-800-meter relay for women and the 3-by-1000-meter relay for men are carried out as part of the youth championships and shown in the list of results.

history

Even before the re-establishment of the German Athletics Association (DLV) , the first youth championships were held in Germany in 1949 and have been held annually since then. The organizer is the German Athletics Association .

During the division of Germany , the GDR hosted its own youth championships.
