German U16 athletics championships

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German U16 athletics championships for girls and boys under the age of 16 were held as a model project from 2014 for a period of three years. In the individual disciplines, a German champion should be determined for girls and boys . The aim was to promote young athletics.

The U16 championships are designed for two days and there are competitions in all individual disciplines as well as the 4 x 100 meter relay . Age groups M and W15 are eligible to participate, young people in age groups M14 and W14 are only allowed in the relay.

In 2016 the last U16 championships should take place in Bremen for the time being. German championship titles were awarded in 32 competitions, which were accompanied by a scientific study as part of the model project. An interim result of the independent, scientific accompanying study of the three-year project "U16-DM" did not support the fear of an early specialization or emerging difficulties in the time management sports school.

In 2017, the final decision on the championship offer had to be made on the basis of the scientific support, and after the three-year trial phase, the individual German U16 championships were firmly established in the competition calendar on the basis of the accompanying scientific investigation by the Technical University of Kaiserslautern .
