The Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schule Gymnasium Rösrath is the high school of the city of Rösrath . It is also called the Rösrath Gymnasium . The school building is located in the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Schulzentrum Rösrath together with a secondary school and a secondary school on a hill west of the city center.
history
On April 1, 1964, the council of the municipality of Rösrath decided to establish a grammar school. About a year later, on April 22, 1965, classes began in temporary buildings on Sandweg. Between 1965 and 1968 a new building was built for the grammar school above Bensberger Strasse. The school was named after Freiherr von Stein in 1965. It was founded as a modern language grammar school and since 1991 has had a bilingual German-French train . Michael Gasse has been the headmaster of the grammar school since 2013.
Educational offer
- Social sciences
The social science subjects regularly offer project courses and excursions, such as a trip to Berlin in Q2. The school also invites Polish NS witnesses every year .
- Culture and movement
Wind instruments can be learned as part of the extended music lessons . There are choirs , a wind orchestra and a big band . Every two years the school organizes a musical and the event “Kultur vom Stein”. The fifth grades take part in a circus project. The eighth grades go on a ski sports week and ski instructor training is offered. The school has a climbing wall.
- STEM subjects
Because of its offer in the MINT subjects, the school received the award "MINT-friendly school". In addition to participating in competitions such as Jugend forscht , numerous working groups are also offered. A MINT trip to Sylt has been organized since 2013 .
- languages
English , French , Latin , Italian and Hebrew are offered at the school . There is also a bilingual German-French train . Various language trips to France and England are offered. Since 2013 the CertiLingua certificate can be obtained at the school. Reading competitions and author readings are organized in German, and there is a literature course every year.
- Individual support
For the purpose of individual support , learning times have been set up in which the students in grades 5–9 fill gaps in various subjects or acquire further knowledge. In the FvS Academy, particularly high-performing or interested students can work on projects and competitions. The school is a member of the NRW Future Schools network and a reference school for development-oriented diagnostics and advice.
Oddities
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the grammar school, the teachers of the school received a homework with the topic “Egon has school”. In addition to songs, interviews, reports, picture stories, legends, humor and school as a serious matter, a fictional speech by Freiherr vom Stein is also documented, with the Prussian reformer's critical view of the educational reforms of the 20th century.
