The 7th World Athletics Championships for 15 to 17 year olds ( U18 for short ) took place from July 6 to 10, 2011 in Lille in France , more precisely in the neighboring village of Villeneuve-d'Ascq . They were organized by the World Athletics Federation IAAF . The world champions were determined in 40 athletic disciplines. The venue was the Nord Lille Métropole Stadium in Villeneuve-d'Ascq, which has a capacity of around 18,000 spectators.

1,385 athletes, 760 boys and 625 girls, from 175 countries were registered for the event.
