Özkan Baltacı (born February 13, 1994 in Izmir ) is a Turkish hammer thrower .

Athletic career

Özkan Baltacı gained his first international experience at the 2010 Junior World Championships in Moncton , where he was eliminated from qualifying with a width of 61.95 m. The following year he won the silver medal at the World Youth Championships near Lille with the 5 kg hammer with 78.63 m and then the bronze medal at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Trabzon with 78.90 m. In 2012 he reached tenth place at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona with 70.98 m and in 2013 he was at the Junior European Championships in RietiFifth with 72.66 m. In 2014 he won the U23 Mediterranean Championships in Aubagne with 68.88 m and the following year he was eliminated from the qualification at the U23 European Championships in Tallinn with 63.79 m. In 2016 he won the silver medal behind the Greek Michalis Anastasakis at the U23 Mediterranean Championships in Tunis with a width of 71.27 m . He also qualified for the first time for the European Championships in Amsterdam , where he finished ninth with 71.35 m in the final.

In 2017 he won the silver medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku with 74.13 m and only had to admit defeat to his compatriot Eşref Apak . In August he took part in the World Championships in London and reached twelfth place with 74.39 m in the final . Only two weeks later he was fifth at the Summer Universiade in Taipei with a throw of 73.58 m. The following year he again took part in the European Championships in Berlin , but this time retired with a width of 71.55 m in the qualification. In 2019 he won the Student World Games in Naples with 75.98 m and thus qualified again for the World Championships in Doha at the beginning of October , but this time he did not reach the final with 73.19 m .

In 2014, Baltacı was the Turkish hammer throw champion.
