Aljona Valerijivna Schamotina ( Ukrainian Альона Валеріївна Шамотіна ; born December 27, 1995 in Nikopol ) is a Ukrainian hammer thrower .

Athletic career

Aljona Schamotina gained her first experience at international championships at the 2011 World Youth Championships in Lille , where she finished eighth. She also won the silver medal at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Trabzon . In 2013 she won the silver medal in the U23 classification at the European Winter Throwing Cup. At the Junior European Championships in Rieti , she came in fifth. In 2014 she won silver again at the Winter Thrower Cup in Portugal and won the Junior World Championships in Eugene . In 2015 she won the third medal at the Winter Throwing Cup and also qualified for the U23 European Championships in Tallinn , where she finished ninth. In 2016 she qualified for the first time for the European Championships in Amsterdam , where she was eliminated with 65.69 meters in qualification.

In 2017 she came third at the Winter Throwing Cup in Las Palmas and also finished third at the European Team Championship in Lille . At the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz , she won the gold medal in front of the French Camille Sainte Luce . She also qualified for the World Championships in London , where she was eliminated from the qualification at 64.88 meters .

In 2017 she became the Ukrainian champion.
