Fedrick Dacres (born February 28, 1994 in Kingston ) is a Jamaican discus thrower .

Athletic career

Fedrick Dacres gained his first international experience at the 2010 CARIFTA Games in George Town , where he won the gold medal with a new championship record of 52.99 m. He then won the silver medal at the Central America and Caribbean Junior Championships (CAC) in Santo Domingo with 47.88 m. At the first ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore , he finished second in the B final with 54.79 m. In 2011 he won the World Youth Championships in Lille with 67.05 m and then won bronze at the Pan American Junior Championships in Miramar with 57.24 m. At the CARIFTA Games 2012 in Hamilton he won gold with 58.57 m, as well as at the CAC Junior Championships in San Salvador , where he promoted the discus to 59.99 m. Then he also won the Junior World Championships in Barcelona with 62.80 m.

2013 he finished in the CARIFTA games in Nassau with 17.23 m in fourth place in the shot put and won the discus competition with 61.27 m again gold. Two years later he won the gold medal at the Pan American Games in Toronto with 64.80 m ahead of the Brazilian Ronald Julião and the American Russell Winger . He also qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where he reached seventh place in the final with 64.22 m. In 2016 he qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated with 50.69 m in the qualifying round. In 2017 he again took part in the World Championships in London and finished fourth in the final with 65.83 m.

In 2018 he took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time , where he won the gold medal with a new championship record of 68.20 m in front of his compatriot Traves Smikle and the Cypriot Apostolos Parellis . In addition, after three victories in the Diamond League , he took part in the final in Brussels , where he won the overall standings with 68.67 m and $ 50,000 in prize money. At the end of the season he won the Continental Cup 2018 for Team America . On June 16, 2019, he threw 70.78 m further than 70 meters for the first time in Rabat , making it 19th on the all-time best list. At the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019 , he won the gold medal with 67.68 m as in 2015. He was one of the favorites for the World Championships in Doha in September, where he won the silver medal behind Sweden's Daniel Ståhl with a width of 66.94 m in the final .

Between 2015 and 2018, Dacres became the Jamaican discus thrower every year. He studied sociology at the University of the West Indies .
