Miramar is a city in Broward County in the US state of Florida with 128,729 inhabitants (as of 2012). The urban area has a size of 80.3 km².

geography

Miramar is located approximately 15 km northwest of Miami and 15 km southwest of Fort Lauderdale . The city is bordered by the parishes of Pembroke Pines , Hollywood, and West Park . In the south the city borders on Miami Gardens ( Miami-Dade County ) and in the west on the Everglades .

history

Miramar was founded on May 26, 1955. At that time, fewer than 200 people lived in the area in an area of ​​7.5 km².

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 122,041 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 40,294 households. politics

The city government works according to the city manager-city council principle. The city manager is appointed by the city commission as the administrative head of the city administration. At the same time, he is tasked with advising the city commission on political issues. He is responsible for the daily tasks of the city administration and entrusted with the implementation of the policy decided by the city council. The city council itself is elected in free elections by the people of Miramar. It consists of four men and the chairman. Its task is to determine the direction of the city policy and to issue regulations and resolutions within the framework of the available budget.
