Parkland is a city in Broward County in the US state of Florida with 23,962 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Parkland is located approximately 12 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale and 34 miles north of Miami . The city is bordered by Coral Springs to the south, Coconut Creek to the east, Palm Beach County to the north and the Everglades to the west .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has an area of ​​33.2 km², of which 31.9 km² is land and 1.3 km² (= 3.97%) is water.

history

In the Parkland school massacre , the perpetrator shot a total of 17 people on February 14, 2018.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 23,962 inhabitants at that time were distributed over 8,292 households. The median annual income was $ 114,651, with 6.1% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 82.79% of the population, 11.48% spoke Spanish and 5.73% spoke another language.
