Margate is a city in Broward County in the US state of Florida with 53,284 inhabitants (as of 2010). The geographic coordinates are: 26.25 ° North, 80.21 ° West. The urban area has a size of 23.3 km².

Margate is located approximately 6 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale and 25 miles north of Miami . Adjacent communities are Coconut Creek , Coral Springs , Pompano Beach, and North Lauderdale .

Religions

In Margate there are currently 21 different churches from 10 different denominations, of which the Baptist congregation is most strongly represented with 4 churches. There are also 5 churches that do not belong to any denomination (as of 2004).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 53,284 inhabitants were distributed over 24,863 households. The population density was 2337 inhabitants / km². 62.0% of the population identified themselves as whites , 25.8% as African-Americans , 0.4% as Indians and 4.0% as Asian Americans . 4.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.3% to several ethnic groups. 22.2% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 28.9% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 36.5% of all households. 62.8% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.47 people and the average family size was 3.10 people.

22.8% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 24.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 25.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 46.8% of the population were male and 53.2% were female.

The median annual income was $ 45,674, with 13.5% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, 75.91% of the population spoke English as their first language, 13.78% spoke Spanish and 10.31% spoke another language.
